council report

by Lynda Williams

The previous July City Council meeting was cancelled and this was a 20-minute meeting with only two business items on the agenda.

Toquerville Parkway Bid Package

Stanley Consulting was on the agenda but didn’t attend. The council authorized Stanley Consultants to execute a change order for the Toquerville Parkway. It’s not to exceed $ 705,000 for Toquerville City’s utility portion of the Westfield Waterline. They authorized payment using state funding. A phone call vote was taken on June 22, 2023 that authorized this action.

More Nightly rental Ordinance fine-tuning

To understand the background on this topic, the Demystified: Short Term Rentals post is helpful.

The Council approved a cap on nightly rental applications to ten, based on a first come first serve basis. This is to keep the workload manageable for the city’s staff.

The question was raised by Councilman Chaves:  How do subsequent applicants, after the tenth applicant, maintain their position in line as space becomes available? There was discussion about keeping an extended list of applicants who will be notified when the city is ready to accept more applications.

It was mentioned during the discussion that there are some changes for what is needed to complete an application for a nightly rental.  If you’re planning to apply, check with the City to make sure you have the latest rules and regulations.

Highway Cleanup

One other item of note. Mayor Sipp announced there will be a highway cleanup (SH 17) on August 5. It will begin at 7 A.M. and stretch from Anderson Junction to the LaVerkin bridge.
